This afternoon, the Governor of Abia State, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, in his office at government, Umuahia, received a report from the Seven-Member committee set up on the 12th of February 2020, to investigate the purported employment in the Secondary Education Management Board from 2018.

He described as unfortunate the findings that a total number of 5,666 staff out of 5,853 recruited by SEMB between 2018 till date are done without government waiver and approval.

The Governor who was represented by his Chief of Staff, Dr. A.C.B Agbazuere disclosed that his administration is very passionate about taking the State Education sector to an enviable height.

He harped on the need for all to abide by rules and regulations in carrying out any given assignment adding that the state will not tolerate any form of lawlessness.

Governor Ikpeazu who commended the members of the Committee for turning in their report on time despite the challenges and COVID-19 pandemic assured them that the State government will give full attention to the recommendations made in the report.

Earlier in her address, the Chairman of the Committee, Dr. Mrs. Kate Ndukauba who noted that disarticulation exercise has not been fully implemented harped on the need for the overhaul of the SEMB, reconstitution of the board, the establishment of personnel and finance audit for SEMB and ASUBEB among others as part of their recommendations.

Thanking the State government for the opportunity given to them to serve, she pointed out that the recommendations if fully implemented will long a long way in sanitizing the SEMB as well as improve the welfare of workers.
