By Prince Clinton Uba
Healthy living is very important in the life of every human being. A malaria bout, which is rampant in this part of the world is enough to knock you out for several days and if proper medical attention is not provided, may lead to death.
Abia state Government has over the years done well in the area of building Primary Health Centres across the state.
However, there are several challenges being encountered by the centres which includes;- Lack of resident Doctors, few qualified Nurses, limited number of public health experts, obsolete medical facilities, lack of drugs, none availability of water supply and security issues.
The aim of every Primary Health Centre is to take care of the medical needs of the rural dwellers and make drugs cheaper and readily available.
The protection of the health of poor and vulnerable is aimed at reducing the financial burden that usually stops them from having access to health care services.
Some of the health centres lack the necessary enablers that could be a stimulant to make them function well.
Mr. Ncheta Omerekpe, Fonder, NCHETA OMEREKPE FOUNDATION understands that, reducing the cost of health care and making the centres workable will provide social and financial security to the most vulnerable which includes:-
* The sick
* The poor
* Pregnant women
* Physically challenged
He therefore considered it necessary to rehabilitate the existing Primary Health Centre in Umuakwu Nsulu, Isiala Ngwa North, while plans are in place to do same in other areas within a very short period..
First, he carried out the rehabilitation of the dilapidated buildings, sunk a solar energy powered water borehole, provided first class medical equipments, made available solar powered electricity and drugs that worth over N2M already delivered.
As the saying goes;
“The health of the people is really the foundation upon which all their happiness and all their powers depend”.
Chief Ncheta Omerekpe ( ODOZI OBODO) has this belief that the best way to unlock the full potentials of human being is to create a healthy people and this is exactly what he is doing.
