BORDER CLOSURE AND LOCKDOWN, BEST WAY TO PREVENT CORONA VIRUS FROM ENTERING THE STATE~ ABIA DEPUTY GOVERNOR..

The State Deputy Governor, Sir Ude Oko Chukwu says the closure of Abia borders with other neighboring states and the lockdown of the state remain the best decision to prevent the dreaded corona virus pandemic from entering the state.

Sir Oko Chukwu stated this while featuring on a live Current Affairs Programme of Family Love FM Umuahia “TALKING POINT” noted that as at today Abia has no record of any case of the pandemic describing the border closure and lockdown order in the state as a strategic decision taken by the Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu led administration geared towards safeguarding the lives of Abians and appealed to Abians and others resident in the state to cooperate with the state government as the stay at home order is for their own interest.

According to the Deputy Governor, Abia just like every other state in the federation and the world over, never expected the pandemic and as a proactive government, the state government immediately braced up with the challenge by sensitizing its citizenry through the Media and other channels on the need to maintain social distancing, regular washing of hands with soap and running water, making use of the hand sanitizers, personal protective equipments, among others, adding that the state government also set up three isolation centres in Abia State Specialist Hospital, Amachara, Abia State University Teaching Hospital, Aba and Federal Medical Centre, Umuahia while the state government is working on two others in Aba and Abia North respectively.

On the issue of the palliative materials, the number two citizen of the stated emphasized that government decided to distribute the items through the various church leaders to remove the issue of political bias noting that only the church leaders can do it better than any other organization assuring that others not captured in the first phase will be reached through the Traditional Rulers, President Generals of Development Unions in the second phase of the distribution of the palliative materials.

Some callers on the programme including Uwakwe Chidiebere, Uduma Okechukwu, Obinna Okoroafor, among others commended the State Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu for the measures he has taken so far in making sure that Covid-19 is not recorded in the state.
