ABIA STATE SSG RECEIVES MR. TOURISM NIGERIA, REAFFIRMS GOVERNMENT’S COMMITMENT TO DEVELOPING THE TOURISM SECTOR

The Secretary to the Abia State Government (SSG), Barrister Chris Ezem has reaffirmed the commitment of the State government to developing and repositioning the Abia tourism sector.

The SSG was speaking when he received the 2019/2020 Mr. Tourism Nigeria, Mr. Chukwunonye Mascot Ahuruonye who paid him a courtesy call in his office at Umuahia.

It would be recalled that Abia-born Chukwunonye Mascot Ahuruonye from Osisioma Ngwa LGA, had on December 7, 2019, at the Red Carpet Hall, Oniru, Victoria Island, Lagos, defeated other candidates to emerge winner of the keenly contested Mr. Tourism Nigeria 2019/2020 pageant.

The SSG congratulated Mr. Ahuruonye and expressed delight that an Abia son now wears the coveted crown. He said that the Okezie Ikpeazu administration is firmly committed to developing the tourism sector and had articulated plans towards ensuring that the many tourist treasures with which God has blessed Abia State are revitalized to function optimally, boost revenue and keep the tourism ecosystem alive.

In his address to the SSG earlier, Mr. Chukwunonye Mascot Ahuruonye – a project management graduate of Federal University of Technology Owerri, who is also a high profile fashion model and award-winning lyricist – said that following his victory at the contest and his subsequent discussions with the SSA to the Governor on Tourism and Entertainment, he decided to return home from his base in Lagos to deploy the apparatus of his crown in carrying out enlightenment campaigns on tourism development and related social issues. He informed the SSG that he would soon kick-off a campaign on Lassa Fever and presented the project document to Governor Okezie Ikpeazu through the SSG, seeking the partnership and support of the State government.

While introducing Mr. Ahuruonye to the SSG earlier, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Tourism and Entertainment, Queen Onyekachi Atulomah said that in line with the mandate of her Office, she had encouraged him to return home and help in building the Abia tourism sector. She appealed to the SSG to throw his weight behind Mr. Ahuruonye’s anti-Lassa Fever campaign, noting that it would complement government efforts in that regard.

The SSG assured that the State government, as part of its usual support for laudable ideas, would support Mr. Ahuruonye’s project.

Present at the event were Mr. Tourism Nigeria’s Manager, Mr. Obinna Okoro; his media consultant, Mr. Chukwuma Dikeocha; a tourism investor, Mr. Ugwuzor Ahuruonye; Special Assistant to the Governor on Strategic Develoment Communications, Mr. Victor Nwokocha; popular musician, Mr. Sunday Offor (aka Big Fish); media executives and top functionaries of the Office of the SSG.
